Volnay

Volnay Ier cru, les Fremiets

However Volnay is a village close to Pommard, its wines are considered as the Finest and smartest of the Côte d'Or. These "Fremiets" are the most perfect example of this reputation. They are full of delicacy, very aromatic, even when young, and very well assimilate the tannins from oak with the concentration of a Premier Cru. Although their ageing potentiality is less than for the Pommard, the Volnay "Fremiets" will keep at least 6 to 8 years.

Since 2005, this parcel is farmed without a tractor, for not to compact the soil. Therefore all works are handmade, and ploughing by horses or mules !

"Volnay" is a blend of wines from four different plots, from vines both young and old. These are very fine, expressive wines, very pleasant when young, as they release exceptionally intense aromas. With their softer tannins, the Volnays will keep for four to five years.

Volnay Roberdelles is made exclusively from the grapes of one plot in the Roberdelles locality, replanted in 1943. The plot is big enough to merit its grapes being vinified and matured separately. These vines produce highly concentrated wines with a fine tannic structure, while retaining the aromatic femininity of the Volnay appellation. Their inherent characteristics mean that they will keep for five to six years.
